All that Sparkles is Clean's featured image

Whether it’s a pair of earrings, a bracelet or a classic string of pearls, the cleaning experts at MOLLY MAID suggest using these techniques to have your jewelry sparkling well into the New Year!

  • SILVER: If your silver jewelry is dull, filmy or slightly discoloured, mix a few drops of dish soap with warm water. Dip a clean microfibre cloth into the solution and rub the jewelry clean. Rinse the jewelry in cool water and buff with a dry microfibre cloth. If the silver jewelry is severely tarnished, make a paste by mixing three parts baking soda and one part water into a bowl. Generously apply the paste to the silver with a soft microfibre cloth until the cloth turns a light shade of grey. Rinse and buff dry.
  • GOLD: To clean gold and gem stones, prepare a bubble bath by mixing a few drops of mild dish soap with a small amount of sodium-free club soda. Put your jewelry into a small strainer and soak it in the bath for about five minutes. Swish the jewelry around and then clean each piece with a soft toothbrush. Rinse the jewelry with cool water and dry.
  • PEARLS: To clean pearls, lay the strand on a soft microfibre cloth. Dip a small makeup brush into a mixture of warm water and shampoo, and use it to clean each pearl. Wipe the pearls with a clean damp microfibre cloth. Dry flat.
