Blocked Shower Head? Here’s How to Clear It Fast

If you notice your shower isn't as powerful as it once was, or if it's squirting water jets in odd directions, it may be clogged up with limescale deposits.

To dissolve the limescale:

  1. Unscrew the shower head.
  2. Soak it for a few hours in white vinegar mixed with equal parts water.
  3. Give it a good rinse and screw back in place.

You'll be singing in the shower again in no time!

Toothbrushes and Other Bathroom Products: Here Are Important Expiry Date Guidelines

You use certain bathroom products every day, but how long should you continue to use the same item before you replace it?

MOLLY MAID provides these guidelines for expiry dates of household products you often use in the bathroom. Of course, you should always look for the manufacturers' guidelines as well.

Toothbrushes

  • Expiry Date: 3 months
  • The Canadian Dental Association recommends tossing your toothbrush every three months - to avoid a build-up of bacteria and because of wear.

Makeup

  • Mascara Expiry Date: 3 months
  • Powders, lipsticks, eye pencils Expiry Date: 6 months
  • Makeup is exposed to bacteria on your face, and that's why you want to follow these guidelines to limit the accumulation of germs.  If makeup hasn't been opened it has a shelf life of about two years if stored in a dry, cool place.

Razors

  • Expiry Date: As soon as dullness appears (usually after 10-15 uses)
  • If your razor is dull you will experience pulling and irritation when shaving.  This can cause cuts and 'razor burn' on your skin and that can feel quite uncomfortable.  The quality of razor used can help improve its lifetime.

Check back in the coming weeks to learn about the expiry guidelines for kitchen items and bedroom items.

Amazing New Uses For Dryer Sheets from MOLLY MAID

Dryer sheets work like magic in the dryer - removing static electricity from clothes and adding a nice fresh scent!

But did you know that you can use dryer sheets in other ways too?

MOLLY MAID, your house cleaning experts, share these amazing tricks… no wonder dryer sheets are the laundry room's most valuable product!

1. Shoe Freshener: Roll up one sheet per slipper, sneaker, or loafer, insert, and forget about stinky shoes. (Bonus uses: Toss them in hampers, on closet shelves or in diaper bags.)

2. Flyaway Hair: Tame flyaway hair by rubbing a sheet over the hair! Of course, you can rid clothes of static cling this way too.

3. Scum Buster: Remove old soap buildup from glass shower doors by sprinkling a few drops of water onto a used fabric-softener sheet and scrubbing the scum away.

4. Drawer Sachet: If fabric-softener sheets make your clothes smell nice in the dryer, just think about what they could do in your dresser.  Slip a few fresh sheets between folded clothes. (It's like spring cleaning all year long!)

Mother’s Day Gift to Mom: Clean the House! MOLLY MAID gives more quick cleaning ideas

Yesterday we communicated three steps to get started and tackle those larger cleaning jobs to get Mom's house sparkling; today we'll discuss those little extras that Mom will appreciate, so  she can spend her time doing something she actually enjoys, instead of being stuck inside cleaning the house.

1. How to clean the toilet bowl - Mom will especially appreciate not having to do this dreaded chore!  Pour a cup of white vinegar in the toilet bowl. A few swishes with the brush is all it takes for a natural green clean.

2. How to use vacuum parts - Those extra accessory tools that come with your vacuum actually do have a purpose! Using the proper vacuum tool can help quickly clean those crevices and fabric folds.  The dusting brush tool can be used for lamp shades, hanging light fixtures and Venetian blinds, while the narrow furniture nozzle can be used to clean upholstered furniture, chairs and draperies.

3. How to leave a lasting impression - Once the house is glistening, give Mom some aroma therapy by lighting a scented candle or gathering some flowers from the garden.  Early blooms like daffodils or tulips add a beautiful scent and a great pop of colour to brighten the room.

Imagine Mom's sheer delight of coming home to a sparkling clean house.  It's the perfect gift for Mother's Day!

Find New Storage Space you didn’t know you had

Clearing clutter is actually the starting point to keeping the house clean. And it's easier than you think to strike it from your house cleaning checklist. Once you get rid of the things you don't use anymore, take a second look at how you are organizing items in your closets, etc. Here are great storage tips and tricks from the cleaning services experts at MOLLY MAID.

1. GIFT WRAP STORAGE SOLUTION:  Store rolls of gift wrap by securing two flexible wires across the closet ceiling - about 4 inches down from the ceiling should be sufficient space.

2. HANG UP YOUR SPRAY BOTTLES:  Double the storage space under your sink by installing a tension rod - and using it to hang up all your spray bottles.

3. ORGANIZE PERSONAL CARE ITEMS:  Place a magnetic strip on the inside of your bathroom vanity door and use it to store tweezers, bobby pins and other small essentials.
