This long weekend Canada celebrates its 150th birthday, and what better way to celebrate than by having a party. Whether you’re planning a picnic, a day at the beach or a barbecue with friends, the cleaning experts at MOLLY MAID are here to provide you with cleaning tips to ensure your Canada Day celebrations go off without a hitch!

  1. Face paint: It’s fun to have your face painted at a Canada Day Celebration, but removing it later on can be tough. A good cleaning solution to use is coconut oil. The oil from coconut oil adheres to the oil found in face paint, making it easier to remove. Add a bit of coconut oil to a microfibre cloth and massage it into the face paint. Next, use a damp microfibre cloth to remove the remaining face paint and coconut oil.
  2. Sand: Canada Day celebrations at the beach, although fun, often lead to sand being tracked back to your home. Fortunately, baby powder can help minimize this mess. Before heading home, sprinkle your legs and feet with baby powder, then brush it off. The baby powder will absorb any water in the sand making it easier to brush off. Make sure to shake out your beach towel too before heading inside.
  3. Bathing suit: Canada Day at the beach or poolside is a treat. When you’re done for the day, make sure to dry your wet swimsuit properly, to extend its lifespan. Lay your swimsuit flat on a towel, roll it up and squeeze gently. Once the towel has absorbed most of the water, lay the suit out flat to dry in the shade, as direct sunshine will cause the colours to fade.
  4. Popsicles: Eating popsicles at a summer BBQ can often result in a melted (but delicious) mess. The solution; use cupcake liners to catch drips. Push the popsicle stick through the centre of a cupcake liner before giving these tasty treats to your children, and make sure to enjoy one yourself too!
  5. Berry stains: Strawberries are a delicious ingredient for festive Canada Day pies, tarts and cakes. If you happen to get a little bit of strawberry juice on your fingers, apply lemon juice to your hands, rub it in, and then let it sit for a couple minutes. Rinse and wash your hands with soap and warm water. Repeat the process, if necessary, until all of the berry juice has been removed.
