It’s Christmas in July.  At least it is for Richmond Hill and Thornhill customers of MOLLY MAID.

The home cleaning franchise is collecting non-perishable food items to help hungry families. Earlier in July, company representatives left a note and plastic bag at all its clients’ homes, local owner, Rita Benton, said.

“Some customers gave on the spot and others indicated there would be something for us next visit,” Ms. Benton said.

The card left at each home reads: “Dear MOLLY MAID customer, summer is a time of year when food banks are easily overlooked and therefore in greater need of donations. MOLLY MAID and The Salvation Army are partnering together and participating in an effort to support thousands of Canadians who are unable to provide food for their families. To participate, please insert any non-perishable food items into the pink bag and leave it on your kitchen counter. Your MOLLY MAID team will collect the donation on the next regularly scheduled service. The donation will be delivered to the local Richmond Hill Food Bank for distribution to those in need. We thank you for your generous support.”

So, instead of waiting to show their generosity during the holidays, MOLLY MAID customers can celebrate Christmas in July.

“We have always participated in charity benefits and community fundraising in and around Richmond Hill because we believe we should,” said Ms Hewlett,  adding  ”we hope this will raise public awareness to the food  bank shortage  at this time of year.”
