On Deck: Cleaning Pool Toys's featured image

There’s nothing like good clean fun in the pool on a hot summer day! Here are some tips to keep your pool toys in pristine condition.

Cleaning

Although the chlorine in the pool helps keep your pool toys clean, it’s important to give them an additional cleaning every once in a while.  Mix a solution of ¼ cup of baking soda and 4 cups of warm water. Use a microfibre cloth to clean any mildew and dirt from the toys. Rinse and let the toys air dry.

Maintenance

Inflatable toys: Before using inflatable toys, check that all plugs are secure and that there are no visible holes. If you notice any holes, patch them up.

Pool noodles: Be extra careful with foam pool toys. Since the material is porous, bacteria and/or mould grows more quickly and is often harder to see. Clean these toys more frequently. If you notice the foam starting to break off of the noodles, replace them.

Storage: When storing your pool toys and equipment, make sure they are completely dry before placing them into a covered trunk or container. The best way to do this is to let them air dry. This will prevent mould and mildew from forming.
