Paint Tool Clean-up's featured image

Spring is the perfect time to brighten up your home with a fresh coat of paint on the walls. Although painting can be fulfilling when completed, cleaning up your painting tools after a hard day’s work, is never an appealing task. Make the clean-up easier and more enjoyable, by following these handy cleaning tips.

  1. Remove any excess paint from your brush and roller. Use the edge of the paint can to remove excess paint from your brush, and roll your paint roller onto a piece of newspaper to remove paint from your roller. This process will make it easier to wash each tool.
  2. Next, fill a bucket with warm soapy water and use the solution, and your fingers, to work the paint out of the brush and roller, starting from the top and working your way to the bottom. Use a paint comb to help remove paint from the bristles of the brush. Swish and spin the brush and roller around in the soapy solution and squeeze out any remaining paint.
  3. Fill a second bucket with clean water, and rinse your roller and paintbrush. Use your fingers again to work the bristles and roller fibres to remove any access soap and paint. Swirl the brush and roller around in the bucket of water, the rinse both buckets in your laundry room sink.
  4. Squeeze as much excess water from your brush and roller as you can. For paint rollers, use an old rag to roll your roller in. Give the rag a good squeeze to dry as much of the roller as possible. Stand your roller in your laundry room sink, to encourage any access water to drain. Do not lay your roller flat in the sink, as this will cause the fibres to flatten. For paint brushes, hang or stand brushes, bristles down in the sink so that any access liquid drains down and out of the bristles.
