You didn’t think we were suggesting you stay up and clean all night long, did you? Gosh no, what we mean is that you need to make the most of your self-cleaning appliances. And here’s the thing: even if your appliances are not the self-clean models, you can still make them clean all night long!

Rangetop/Stovetop Tricks

As handy as the self-clean function is on our stoves, that automated task only applies to the oven. Cooktops and their accessories, like drip trays, burner grates, control panels, and stove knobs all need to be manually cleaned. We’ve got two tricks to make manual cleaning a breeze.

Trick #1: Wipe down the stovetop, knobs, and control panel after every single cooking session. No deep clean required. Check your stove’s owner manual as things like burner grates and caps, and some stove knobs can be washed in the dishwasher!

Trick #2: Even if you’re too tired to clean up a splattered mess like tomato sauce or splattered chocolate, pour water on the stains so they dissolve overnight. In the morning simply wipe up the water; you’ll be amazed that most stains will be gone!

Self-cleaning Oven

Steam clean and self-clean are two of the greatest inventions of the last 100 years. Steam clean is a miracle worker as it speeds up the work, so your oven is clean in twenty minutes! Self-clean takes longer but it’s a deeper clean, and the only thing you have to do is push a button! Not sold on the self-cleaning feature on your oven? Washing Machine

It seems ridiculous that a washing machine—whose only function is to wash—would need its own washing washing, but it does. Even if yours doesn’t have a self-clean function, you can let disinfectant cleaning products like vinegar, lemon and borax do the trick. Pour two cups of vinegar or concentrated lemon juice, and two cups of water into the washing machine drum. Or make a baking soda cocktail using one cup of baking soda and three cups of water. Let disinfectants soak overnight. In the morning run the washing machine on a regular cycle to remove soaking mixtures.

Dishwasher

Yep, the dishwasher needs to be washed too. Learn how from our “Clean Your Dishwasher Like a Pro” blog post.
