Tree Trimming Party's featured image

Organizing a tree trimming party is much easier than you think. You need food, refreshments and the tree – and that's about it! Here's a checklist:

Buy a Christmas tree  and set it up in the living room (or where you want to have it). Let the tree sit inside for at least a day before you decorate it. Be sure to use a stand that allows you to give the tree water. It will last longer.

Pull together Christmas music that you can play as background music. If you are lucky enough to have a piano, place holiday sheet music on it in case someone at the party feels like playing.

Make it a buffet-style party that includes finger food appetizers. Be sure to load up the cookies and sweets too, because that's what people will be expecting.

Plan the party for either a weekend afternoon (say from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.) or in the evening after dinner (say 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.) It should depend on whether or not young children will be there.

Lay out boxes of ornaments and other decorations so they're easy to see and reach. Be sure there's a star or angel for the top of the tree too.

Appoint someone in your household to be in charge, and start by stringing the lights, then continue with the decorations and fun!
